One Blackfriars

One Blackfriars, 170-metres high and houses 247 luxury apartments, was inspired by a piece of Fifties art: a Scandinavian glass vessel from the architect’s private collection. Designed by the Rochdale-born architect Ian Simpson. It is informally known as The Vase or The Boomerang due to its shape. Robert Shiller, a Nobel Prize winning economist, proposed an alternative name as “The Tummy.”
